Fashion lingerie

Fashion lingerie is a term for fashionable and alluring women's undergarments. It derives from the French word linge, "washables" — as in faire le linge, "do the laundry" — and ultimately from lin for washable linen, the fabric from which European undergarments were made before the general introduction of cotton from Egypt and then from India. While the term in the French language applies to all undergarments for either gender, in English it is applied specifically to those women's undergarments designed to be visually appealing or erotic, typically incorporating materials such as Lycra, nylon (nylon tricot), polyester, satin, lace and/or silk and not applied to functional cotton undergarments.

The lingerie industry has expanded in the 21st century with designs that double as outerwear. The French refer to this as 'dessous-dessus' which basically means innerwear as outerwear. The boutique Faire Frou Frou, which is an antiquated phrase meaning "show it off", heralds this philosophy by categorizing lingerie as an accessory with details such as straps and lace trim that should be layered and shown as part of one's outerwear.

Negligee is a form of womenswear intended for wear at night and in the bedroom. Nightgown or Nightie is a loosely hanging item of nightwear, may vary from hip-length (babydoll) to floor-length (peignoir). Nightshirt is a garment intended for sleeping in. It is generally loose-fitting to avoid restricting the wearer's movement while sleeping.

The petticoat is a separate garment hanging from the waist (unlike the chemise).

Fashion lingerie: The Pettipants and the Robe

Pettipants are a type of lingerie worn by women. The name is probably derived from a portmanteau of the French word petit ("small"), the spelling "petti" coming more directly from "petticoat," and the English word pants. Pettipants are similar to long shorts, though they may be made from material such as cotton and lace, and usually have ruffles down each leg. A teddy, also called body and camiknicker, is a form of bodysuit-like lingerie, often worn in the boudoir. By definition, a teddy is an undergarment which combines a camisole and panty in one piece. Unlike a bodysuit, it is typically looser and more sheer, and may be designed to slip off from the shoulders, rather than to open at the crotch. Undergarments are clothes worn under other clothes, often next to the skin. They keep outer garments from being soiled by perspiration, shape the body and provide support for parts of it, and in cold climates help the wearer to keep warm. Undergarments can be used to preserve the wearer's modesty, as well as for erotic effect. Unitard is a skin-tight one-piece garment with long legs and sometimes long sleeves. It differs from a leotard in that a leotard does not have long legs. (It can be considered as a combination of a leotard and tights that is one layer throughout

Fashion lingerie: Keep the curves of your body intact for wearing lingerie

Keep the curves of your body intact for wearing lingerie. The beautiful cleavage or the lovely thighs are the curves that make you a woman. Your beauty lies in your curves. So do not ever attempt to hide those; rather wear the correct negligee to accentuate those.

Fashion lingerie: How to keep your curves intact?

Look at yourself on the mirror. Mark the areas that you like the most; your breasts, thighs, buttocks or legs. Choose a bra that accentuates your cleavage if that’s what you want to flaunt. Go for a baby doll negligee if you want to cover from breasts down. Alternately if you want to hide your upper arms choose a short-robe.

Fashion lingerie: Keep your lingerie wardrobe simple

The mantra is, keep it simple. Remember because of your size, you wouldn't want to add more color or frills to your lingerie. This will only take away attention from the parts that you want to accentuate. Use solid colors and lacy material; single colors are always great! Avoid a cluttered look by choosing simple floral patterns and self-designs.

Fashion lingerie: Use good postures to look good in your lingerie

One of the methods is to keep supports at hand. Everybody needs a bit of a support at times to accentuate what they lack and at times to hide what they have in excess. Today for plus-size women the lingerie lines have come up with great supports to hide your belly bulge, hips or thighs if you so wish. Bras with wide shoulder straps will help support bigger breasts. Forget girdles. Shop for bodysuits that hide belly panels and the extra pounds on the hip while accentuating your breasts-a must-have in a plus-size woman’s closet!

Fashion lingerie: Buy lingerie that fits you

Keep it fitting. Don't buy lingerie bigger than your actual size. Don't buy a smaller one either, hoping that it will hide bulges. Always keep it fitting. It is good for your posture, support and of course to look beautiful and sexy in your lingerie.

Fashion lingerie: Keep looking for the best lingerie buy

Keep looking for the best buy. Don't be disheartened if you do not find the bra or the panty for your size in your regular store. Most websites have a bigger collection than they actually display in their stores. So the mantra is to keep looking instead of settling for something that you are not comfortable in.
