Marriage retreats

In this day and age of increasing divorce rates, marriage retreats may well step in where earlier parents, relatives and friends played a part-to reconcile couples who are on the warpath! The success rate of marriage retreats in bridging the divide between couples who were on their way to the divorce courts is well known. Sometimes, marriage retreats are also booked by couples who are just looking to rekindle the passion and connection they felt to each other in the early days of their marriage or courtship period. Whether you're looking for a way to narrow the chasm that has developed between you and your partner, or just looking for a weekend getaway from the kids and household chores and some time to just rekindle the flames of your romance, marriage retreats are the modern couple's answered prayer!

Marriage retreats typically have a 2 or 3 day format, either spread midweek or during a weekend. They could be exclusive to a couple or also cater to a group of diverse couples. The couples could be married or not. Most marriage retreats involve intensive counseling, either one-on-one or group therapy. Some marriage retreats also offer premarital counseling. Even if the couple has decided on the path of divorce, marriage retreats could lend a helping hand to steer the couple towards a more healthy and peaceful, amicable divorce rather than an acrimonious one.

Other than counseling, many marriage retreats also include other ice-breaking stimuli like games, music, nature treks, etc. Most marriage retreats are set in idyllic, sylvan surroundings, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Breathing in the fresh air and taking in the scenic beauty all around is in itself something that refreshes the soul and imbibes in people a fresh perspective on things. There are marriage retreats that rely heavily on religion, or whatever the personal faith of the people involved are, to reach a spiritual solution to a worldly problem. After all, if people believe that marriages are made in heaven, then maybe God could fix the problem!

There are myriad problems that could lead a once-loving couple down the tricky trail of divorce. Sometimes well-meaning family and friends might unknowingly add fuel to the fire and instead of fanning the flames of reconciliation, may actually dampen any flame of love that still survives. Getting away from everyone and everything in the isolation of a marriage retreat might be the very thing needed to save a marriage. Problems that are as diverse as infidelity (both sexual and emotional affairs), a mid-life crisis, financial problems, the empty nest syndrome, losing a job, breakdown in communication, sexual problems, all these can be successfully addressed in a marriage retreat conducted by qualified, well-meaning, and compassionate counselors. So before you call that divorce lawyer, why not book a place in the next marriage retreat that's happening in your area and see what miracles could come out of it. Or even better, book one before any problems even start!
