What is project-9 ?
What is Project-9? To understand this question we need to touch upon certain broader issues of relevance. The current status of Women in today’s society is far below normal and a profound change is needed in the outlook of society to bring them in parity with Men. Only with this parity coming in real terms among both the sexes, we can think about "true nation building” with generative change at every level.
What is Project-9: The core purpose behind Project-9
I am committed to the cause of rise of womanhood in the true sense and Project-9 is one of the many steps towards this direction. All my initiatives in life including Project-9 will be motivated by this core purpose of my existence. Therefore “Project-9” as an entrepreneurial initiative will be committed to the rise of womanhood in our society apart from serving the humanity at large through innovative research in cardiovascular medicine. Based on this purpose, Project-9 will help us to create a learning organization based on Women’s power.
What is Project-9: The bias against women
Let’s understand “what is project-9” through the idea behind the creation of a learning organization. The genesis of the idea to create a learning organization based on Women’s power comes with certain fundamental anomalies in today’s system. Today’s structures around us needs change whether it be the structure of our society as it exists today or be it the structure through which organizations are run today. The society today is highly biased against women. This is not something that has happened just today or yesterday but this bias exists from 1000’s of years. I strongly believe that unless equilibrium is reestablished in our society with women getting equal opportunity as those of men, true generative change all around is not possible.
What is Project-9: The limitation of the authoritarian structure
The other anomaly that is seen today is the profound structural defects that is seen in how today’s organizations are run. Today’s organizations are run on an authoritarian hierarchical structure with linear thinking as the mode of management. This kind of structure cannot support generative and creative learning.
What is Project-9: Creation of a new order
Resisting both the structures that is the status of women in today’s society and the authoritarian hierarchal structure in today’s organizations with aggressive force will be of not much help as they are entrenched in the depths of the “psyche” of the society and any resistance can only lead to a equal and opposite backlash. The only way forward is to create a new order based on a learning and generative organization which stands on the creative and generative capabilities of women in our society. Such an organization will be a model organization for women and the society at large and it will work on systems thinking approach rather than the linear thinking mode that is so prevalent today.
What is Project-9: The learning organization based on women's power
The learning organization based on women’s power will thus have a great sense of purpose, vision, new operating values and principles and clear cut goals for it to move ahead. The learning organization thus created will unleash tremendous amount of positive energy for generative and creative actions all around and it will get tremendous support from the society especially women for its visionary forward looking approach. The creation of the learning organization based on women’s power will fundamentally help in changing the attitude of our society towards women in a reinforcing spin-off effect as that can be understood by systems thinking. Further this organization can bring a reawakening in the society and the business world in terms of an alternative management philosophy and practice as compared to today’s authoritarian and hierarchal organizational structure based on linear thinking.
What is Project-9: Bridging the gap
The whole premise on which the creation of the learning organization depends is the “gap” that exists in today’s society and organizations and how it can be filled up by creating a learning organization which can bring together and galvanize many brilliant minds as a team for path breaking medical research in cardiovascular medicine. The learning organization thus created will break the linear thinking that exists today in most of the organizations as it will be based on the premise of systems thinking and the fifth discipline which focuses on understanding the structural causes of our actions which is beyond the current time and space.
What is Project-9: Working with detail and dynamic complexities
As compared to a conventional organization which is based on linear thinking and which tries to find cause and effect in the immediate space and time and which works mostly through detail complexity, the learning organization based on systems thinking and fifth discipline will create a dream team from heaven which understands and works with both the detail and dynamic complexities and which finds true leverages in these structures for positive and generative change.
What is Project-9: The fifth discipline and systems thinking
The fundamental laws of Systems thinking and the fundamental principles of the fifth discipline like Systems thinking, Personal Mastery, Mental Models, Shared Vision, Team learning and the practice of fifth discipline through “Prototypes” and the “Coda” will make this organization achieve its goals in a far better and creative way than any conventional organization. Such an organization which combines both reason and intuition shall be able to bring path breaking medical research based on generative solutions in the field of cardiovascular medicine.
What is Project-9: The Core team and the management
Let’s now look at “what is project-9” through the idea behind assembling the core team and management of the learning organization. The learning organization as envisioned above cannot be built from the existing structure. This organization has to be created from ground zero and then it has to be built into a massive generative organization attached with the glue of commitment towards the common purpose, vision, operating values and principles and the goals of the organization. Keeping the above in mind, I propose the creation of a initial “core dream team” of women from different professional fields as required by the need of the learning organization in the immediate future as well as keeping in mind the developmental needs for the long-run.
What is Project-9: The detailed project plan
I also propose to be the creator, designer, steward and teacher of this learning organization. This organization will be created on the “detailed project plan” that will be made by the dream team in 24 months time and this organization will expand and grow based on the foundation created through the “detailed project plan”.
What is Project-9: An organization managed by women
As I envision today, this is an organization that will be created on the generative power of womanhood and therefore the running of this organization has to remain in the hands of women at every level. Based on this premise, I also propose that by 15th year of the existence of this organization, I will make an exit from the actual operational control of this organization and handover the complete operational reins to the next generation of competent women professionals who will be groomed for this purpose at least from the 10th year of the existence of the firm. Of course but with all these changes, I will still remain the chief patron and guide for the organization. All the details will be worked out in the detailed project plan.
What is Project-9: Holistic approach with equal importance to work and family
Further, as this organization shall be created on the premise of Holistic approach and unity of purpose with equal importance to work and family, even I personally need to break the structures of my past which compromised my family life with a heavy bias towards by professional life. The “negative structures” in which I had lived till my recent past needs to be broken, if I have to really contribute in creating a learning and generative organization based on systems thinking and fifth discipline because learning organizations cannot be build on broken homes and families. Therefore I propose that when this project is initiated, I should be given an opportunity to build this organization giving equal importance to my family, my home and my personal commitments along with my professional commitments. One of the basic requirements of creating a learning organization is to end the war between family and profession and therefore it becomes necessary that I end the war that has been taking place in my family and professional life till now. This becomes important so that I can practice the same philosophy in the larger organization that shall be created.
What is Project-9: Europe
The learning organization’s head office and the basic research, formulation and commercial setups can be built in Europe. The whole genesis of this organization can get initiated in Europe from ground zero level. If we look at this from the "future of the learning organization" then we are perfectly placed as Europe is emerging as the Biotech capital of the World.
What is Project-9: The impact of “the project-9” on the World
So we have understood now “what is project-9”. As project-9 from day one of its inception will be based on collaborations across the world, we will be unleashing a “reinforcing loop of generative energy" in the society, in the world with our commitment to create a learning organization based on women’s power. This will be an organization that will serve the humanity by alleviating its sufferings through path-breaking therapeutic solutions in cardiovascular medicine as well it will create a huge impact on the rise of womanhood across the world through its core purpose.
